Responsible Breeders
Our goal is to produce the very best goldens that do well in any environment they may find themselves in and that means Health, and temperament is of great importance to us here at Southern Golden Retrievers. We want to proved families with excellent, healthy, friendly, well balanced pets for life! The foundation to achieving our goal is making sure the parents exhibit those qualities and we do that by making sure all of our breeders are in the best of health they can be.
As responsible and caring golden retriever breeders, we get all of our goldens certified with the Orthopedic Foundation of America (OFA) and/or PennHIP to ensure our breeding dogs are in optimal health before any breedings take place, which means we are responsibly producing the very best, health and happy puppies that are free and clear of any diseases. Although nothing is 100% by preforming these test we can take the guess work out of it and know that we are doing our part in breeding responsibly. This allows us to continue to better the breed and lets us share the love of owning happy and amzing goldens with everyone. X-Ray tests and screens are performed when our goldens reach an appropriate age – usually 2 years old (OFA) and around 1 year old (PennHIP). We also have all of our goldens generically tested - usually as puppies but sometimes they are cleared by parentage or done at the same times as their OFA's or PennHIP. As a responsible breeders we always research our pedigrees and the pedigrees of any studs we may use for optimal breeding lines.

Meet SGR Golden Girls
All of our Golden Retrievers are registered with the AKC -American Kennel Club- which is the registration of choice for many well bred canines and used by all responsibly breeders, however some if not most of our goldens are also dual registered with other amazing kennels like FCI or UKC as well. This is due to a number of reasons, such as being imported and or competing in other kennel events like conformation or field work in UKC. More importantly our gorgeous golden are all extremely happy, healthy dogs selected for their amazing golden personalities, high drive, excellent working capabilities, impeccable trainability, and most of all their overall health and genetics.

Duke's Barley Gene
RETIRED
AKC/UKC/CKC American & Crème Golden
Call Name: Barley |
DOB: Jan 04 |
Weight: 60lbs. |
Gorgeous medium build golden with long wavy hair female golden, Barley Gene. Barley produces cremes to golden colored pups and is from Bella who is an American field golden we own. She is extremely smart, very trainable, eager to please and patient girl. She is one of very few dogs that actually made it through the rigorous training that all service animals must go through before becoming a full fledge service dog. Her drive, intelligence, patients and love for the water are all amazing traits that is passed on to her pups, making them them the next generation of water loving, sweet, and caring goldens. Barley is also known for her beautiful smile. Seriously, she smiles, and it will make your heart fill with love!

Dixie Rose
AKC/UKC/CKC American Field Golden
Call Name: Dixie |
DOB: July 20 |
Weight: 50 lbs. |
A beautiful medium golden colored girl; Dixie comes from great field lines with awesome drives and is a very "birdy" dog. She has an amazing temperament with a sweet loving disposition. She is on the smaller side of our goldens but she has the biggest personality. While she is a ball of energy, she does have an off switch which allows for a more calmer side that just loves to lounge around the house with us. She really is a great mixture of high energy and couch potato lol. She will be able to produce my more smaller, darker colored goldens that will be great for any type of family (both high and slightly active families). and depending on the male we use with her, she really can give us the golden "rainbow" as far as colors go. I cant wait to see what this girl has in store for us.
Scarlet
FCI/AKC/UKC/CKC Imported Crème Golden
Call Name: Scarlet |
DOB: June 25 |
Weight: 57 lbs. |
She has A beautiful imported Golden, Unbridled Energy aka Scarlet. I have to say the name her breeder gave her is very appropriate because she is a big ball of energy; like the energizer bunny - she keeps going and going and going........- Scarlet came all the way from Ukraine in 2021 and she is a gorgeous Cream (light golden) color with a very impressive pedigree. Her pedigree is filled with champions from all over the world, with generations of health tested goldens that have amazing longevity; something that is lacking here in the USA. Her parents are both champions and we are hoping she can give us a few titles as well. We are so so excited and cant wait to see what she can bring to our program. Her pups will always be on the lighter side of the golden color spectrum but she will be able to give us some gorgeous cremes all the way to those "sun-kissed golden" colored pups. These pups will also be on the more stockier side like their mama, with those big blocky heads and thick luscious coat.
