Breeder has inquired of the purchaser experience with dogs and in particular with this specific breed Golden Retriever and based on information received is willing to place a puppy with the purchaser. The breeder has pointed out to the purchaser the main conditions this breed is prone to and to the health schemes followed to reduce the risk of such health conditions. Every puppy is an individual and the breeder cannot be held responsible should conditions, genetic or otherwise, develop later in life. Keeping that in mind, the Breeder guarantees the following:
BREEDER GUARANTEES
1. This puppy has been wormed several times as well as been preventative treated for coccidia and giardia. This puppy has had its first Parvo vaccine and has had a physical by a licensed veterinarian with a clean bill of health.
Parasites & Protozoas: All puppies are born with protozoa’s and some even with parasites. Although Breeder does treat for many types of parasites & the protozoa’s but they do recommend that you have your vet of choice do a fecal float within two weeks after you bring your puppy home. Please be advised that your vet may need to treat your pup again, this is not uncommon. Unfortunately, this is something that is unavoidable. Protozoa’s like coccidia and guardia live naturally in pups gut lying dormant, but stressors and environmental changes can cause these things to become active.
2. All necessary care has been taken to only breed the healthiest of dogs with pedigrees that indicate good genetic backgrounds. However, in the unlikely event that your dog should have a genetic defect of one of four tested clearance areas, we do offer a warranty. Southern Golden Retrievers offers a one-year warranty on any puppy with clinical signs of hip dysplasia or elbow dysplasia and a preliminary OFA report confirming severe hip dysplasia or grade III elbow dysplasia that is proven to affect quality of life of puppy and is needing surgery. A copy of the x-rays must be furnished to Seller and if we determine that the dog was poorly positioned, we reserve the right to require the dog to be re-x-rayed by a vet of our choice. The puppy is also warrantied until the age of one year for genetic defects of the heart or eyes. If there is a heart defect, the diagnosis must be confirmed by a letter to breeder from a reputable licensed veterinary cardiologist stating that in his/her opinion this condition is congenital and present from birth of puppy. If there is an eye defect, the diagnosis must be confirmed by a letter to breeder from a reputable licensed veterinarian ophthalmologist stating that in his/her opinion this condition is congenital. In the event of a confirmed genetic defect as listed above, the buyer can return the dog to the breeder and we will replace a puppy as soon as possible. * a Replacement puppy may not be available until our next planned litter and the Buyer(s) agree to wait however long it takes to produce said litter. We also reserve the right to acquire DNA to determine that the dog or puppy is one of our lineages. Puppy must be returned to the breeder at buyer’s expense. Breeder will not be held liable for any expenses incurred by buyer, including but not limited to veterinarian bills and transportation costs. A refund might be possible but its at the discretion of the Breeder/Seller. Puppy or refund happens within 4yr period usually much sooner. If buyer chooses to keep puppy with medical issue breeder will not be held responsible for any cost related to keeping said puppy once it is agreed upon to warranty the puppy, but buyer will still be given either a replacement or refund which ever the breeder decides ***As much as we make every effort to produce only the healthiest and self-confident puppies, no breeder can guarantee a puppy will never develop any health problems, just as children are not guaranteed to develop health issues throughout their life. Some things cannot be predicted. SGR's Sires and Dams are free of diseases, disorders, and health problems otherwise they would not be bred by SGR. We aim to give the puppy the best foundation for a healthy life. Please keep the Breeder informed about puppy’s health throughout his/her life.
3. All puppies are examined by a licensed veterinarian and given a clean bill of health before they leave our home. To the best of the breeder’s knowledge, this puppy has no known diseases or illnesses that would adversely affect its health. This puppy is guaranteed to be free of untreatable health conditions. For this guarantee/contract to be valid, the buyer must take their puppy to a licensed veterinarian of their choice for the puppy’s wellness check-up within 72 hours of taking possession of said puppy. If your puppy is found to have a disease that is untreatable or found to have a life threating hereditary disease at this time, then a letter from the licensed veterinarian stating so must be presented to the seller within 10 days of delivery and or transfer. In this case, the puppy will be returned to the seller within 10 days of notice and a refund will be given (full purchase price ,not including transportation costs or standard vet fees, will be given to the buyer once puppy has been received by seller, thus ending this contract entirely.) Buyer(s) understand and agree this refund does not include any expenses incurred by the buyer or by the buyer’s veterinarian. The breeder will not be held liable for any expenses incurred by the buyer, including but not limited to veterinarian bills and shipping.
4. Breeder is not responsible if puppy contracts a communicable disease after leaving our property. There is no guarantee against fleas, worms, ear mites, coccidia, giardia, or parvo due to SELLER having no control over puppy’s new environment once puppy has left Breeders possession. Every precaution has been taken to ensure you a healthy puppy at pickup by Breeder
MY GUARANTEE IS FOR LIFE THREATENING GENETIC HEREDITARY DEFECTS ONLY.I DO NOT GUARANTEE AGAINST COMMUNICABLE DISEASES SUCH AS PARVO, COCCIDIA, GIARDIA, DISTEMPER, RABIES, ETC. We take every precaution to prevent these illnesses, but a pup's immune system is immature at time of transferring to a new home. Stress can contribute to a Coccidia and/or Giardia outbreaks; this could also be in your tap water. We recommend you give your puppy and or dog ONLY filtered or bottle water to prevent this. Be very careful where you take your pup until fully immunized against these types of diseases and do NOT take your puppy ANYWHERE public with easy access to other sick animals until at least 6month of age. This means don’t take you puppy on walks, to the pet shops, and ONLY take your puppy to the Vet if you really have to, there are a lot of pets there with different types of problems, some being very dangerous and easily transmitted from animal to animal and even human to animal like parvo! If you must take you pup to the Vet’s Please keep your pup in the car until you have been called into a private room and NEVER allow your golden to touch the floor or have direct contact with anyone else in the office besides staff. You can always tell them that you will be waiting in the car with your pet so that they can come out and get you or call you when they are ready this way you are keeping your beloved pet safe and out of harm’s way. Also we recommend keeping them in a kennel or in a wagon or stroller with a cover to keep them from coming in contact with anyone or thing.
5. There is no guarantee against Parvo. Your puppy has been vaccinated at nine-ten weeks and if still here they got a second round at twelve weeks but they must continue to receive booster vaccinations per the vaccine schedule we supplied you with to receive full immunity. Please use common sense when taking your new puppy out.
6. We only breed the most intelligent, loving, and friendly dogs. However, due to environmental and training issues out of our control, once the puppy leaves our home, breeder/seller cannot warranty the temperament of the puppy.
7. Breeder does not guarantee color, size, championship, to be fit for breeding or look of any puppy. No one can!

7. The vaccine protocol by Dr. Jean Dodd’s that was provided to buyer will be followed to the best of their ability. (Seller understands that buyer may or may not be able to completely adhere to the protocol BUT requires at least the schedule to be kept) This means pups should only have vaccines given as follow 1st @9weeks (DONE BY BREEDER), 2nd @12weeks (Done by breeder if pup is still in their possession), 3rd between 16-20weeks and Rabies @24+weeks; Annual Boosters are ONLY needed for Rabies at 1yr, then every 3yrs if in California). Buyer Understands and agrees.
8. This puppy will be subjected to only mild exercise not extending 15 min a day for the first year NO EXCEPTIONS
9. During the first year all play will be kept mild to moderate. This includes but not limited to allowing puppy to jump off furniture or elevated places higher than 6-8in. on to solid ground or Running around on hard surfaces for any extended period or going up or down more than 6 steps.
10. Will not subject puppy/dog paws to too hot or too cold temperatures like walking or running on concrete, asphalt, sand, or any surface, pavement, or ground in or outside by walking on it bare footed without a barrier wax applied at least 30min before being exposed and if you feel its necessary proper foot wear. A good rule of thumb is if you cannot stand on the ground your allowing you golden to roam for as long as they are BARE FOOTED yourself, then neither can your golden without proper protection. NO EXCEPTIONS
11. This dog shall always be kept groomed and free from matts. A bath and a blowout are necessary to keep the shedding under control and maintain healthy skin and coat; proper grooming and brushing will allow you goldens coat to stay cool in the heat and warm in the cold. Regular grooming shall be done every 4 – 6 weeks. Nails will be trimmed regularly at minimum of 1x per week ; teeth and dental hygiene will be cared for and kept up. If there is a problem with mouth pup will be taken to see the vet immediately and a call to seller/breeder will be required to make them aware of the situation.
Buyer understands Seller DOES NOT recommend a shave down at any time in life but understand in some cases (Where Vets have instructed to do so or they themselves did) this may occur. In the event that this has happened Buyer agrees to keep pup in doors for as long as possible until coat has returned and out of direct sun light. If they are to go outside sunscreen will need to be placed on and or possibly a shirt be placed on to protect skin and body. Buyer also understands the dangers for shave downs and how it can cause great harm and sometimes lead to death. A Golden's coat is their natural protection to the outside elements, it also keeps their body temperature at normal safe levels in any weather conditions.
12. Paw pads shall always be kept in good shape. This will be done by continuing to apply a barrier wax Like Baely's Paw Shield or Mushers Secret once a day or every other day to puppy's paws. The Secret of Mushers and Baely’s if applied regularly, creates a semi-permeable shield that prevents paw pads from cracking as a result of dryness and seals the paw from excessive external moisture. Regular application can provide protection to puppy’s paws even in the most extreme conditions including icy, snow, hot and even salting chemicals and toughest of environments like rough terrain. This allows you to walk your dog on hot, cold, rocky or rough surfaced without injuring their pads severely.
13. If for any reason and at ANY point in time during the life of the said dog/puppy Buyer is unable to care for pup or needs to re-home them, Buyer understands and agrees to relinquished said puppy/dog back to Seller. Buyer also agrees to send back puppy in a timely manner and follow all request made by Seller/breeder to get puppy back. This means if a flight is booked for pup Buyer agrees to get puppy/dog there on time to catch their flight with the necessary documents (health certificate for flight from Vet, all registration/pedigree paperwork, All health documents like vaccine records, etc.) and equipment required (proper sized crate, food & water bowl) for flight. Buyer further agrees to NEVER re-homing, surrenders, or donating any pup produced by Southern Golden Retrievers to anyone that is NOT listed in this contract (person or organization). Buyer agrees if they re-home instead of sending pup back to seller than a $5000 fee will be charged to Buyer for breach of this contract and agrees to produce any/all information on the person(s) / entity the puppy/dog is now with. NO EXCEPTIONS
*Seller may agree to pay for transport depending on the situation.

THIS CONTRACT WILL BE VOID UNDER ANY OF THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS:
1. Buyer has permitted the dog to be underfed or overfed at any time. Recent research shows that diet and physical condition is a major contributor and many times is even the cause of hip and joint problems in large dogs. Although these things can be caused by genetics; poor diet, over feeding, and improper exercise of a puppy/dog are known contributors to these disorders.
2. There is evidence of neglect and or abuse.
3. Injuries have occurred while under the care of the buyer, such as a broken bone, trauma, etc.
4. Dog has been bred without obtaining clearances and reversal of limited to full by Breeder.
5. Dog has been fed anything other than foods on our approved dog food list or foods rated by www.petsumerreport.com or www.dogfoodadviser.com rated a 3 or higher.
6. Buyer has not complied with the following, prior to the dog reaching two (2) years of age: this dog should not go faster on a leash than to break a trot, be put on a tread-mill; go up and down more than half flights of stairs (over 6 steps); play roughly with older dogs or children; stand on his/her back legs for extended periods of time..
7. Buyer has not had puppy/dog vaccinated as recommended by Southern Golden Retrievers
8. Dog has not been on heart worm preventive medicine as recommended.
9. Dog is kept tied up and/or created for long periods of time.
10. Buyer fails to adhere any or all their promises under the section “BUYER GUARANTEES” , If you were unable to keep up with some things please communicate the specifics of the situation with the Breeder/Seller, Laila Christian and we can discuss making an exception for certain things.
SURGERY
*Under no circumstances will the Buyer of a Southern Golden Golden Retriever have their puppy altered before 18 months of age or operated on for any reason without first expressed permission from Laila Christian. By signing this contract, the new owner understands by having any procedure whether major or minor without discussing the issue and receiving permission by Laila Christian will void this original contract and health guarantee. Emergency situations will be determined on a case by case basis.
SPAY/NEUTER
** THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT AREA OF IMPORTANCE REGARDING THE HEALTH OF YOUR DOG! PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!!!
Southern Golden Retrievers are sold on a limited registration which means that this pup is not expected to ever be bred. Based on current research, SGR would prefer the puppy stay intact throughout its growing period and believes that having the natural full complement of hormones is necessary for proper growth and development. You need to understand that later is better regarding spaying or neutering as altering before fully grown can compromise the dog’s skeletal structure, keep them from maturing properly, and predispose them to cancers and other health problems. You also understand and agree that if the dog is spayed/neutered before the age of 18 months then the health guarantee is null and void. If you are unable to wait until Eighteen (18) months of age, please communicate the specifics of the situation with Breeder/Seller, Laila Christian to discuss any exception there may be.
BREEDING CONDITIONS & RESTRICTIONS
1. This puppy is being sold with the understanding that he/she is to purely be a pet. NO BREEDING will be permitted unless limited registration has been reversed first.
2. Southern Golden Retrievers reserves the right to proceed with legal action if this puppy is either inadvertently or intentionally bred. By signing this agreement, you are agreeing to pay Southern Golden Retrievers a fee of no less than $13,000 but no more than $150,000 as a penalty fee for non-compliance of this contract. Breeding a puppy given limited registration will immediately void this contract! Furthermore, you agree and understand that breeder has the right to take back possession of puppy/dog, all documents related to puppy/dog and entire litter produced by said puppy/dog, if breeder so chooses to at any point in time If bred. Buyer agrees to pay breeder/seller a fee of $6500 per pup produced by said puppy either sired or whelped. Buyer further agrees to immediately have said puppy/dog altered so there is no other breeding's.
BREEDING REQUIRMENTS & CHANGING REGISTRATION FROM LIMITED TO FULL
This only apply to those who disclosed their future planning of show/breeding to the breeder at first contact and their homes have already been approved for such a dog. NORMAL HOME APPROVAL DONE BY SGR DOES NOT MEAN YOU HAVE AN APPROVAL FOR A SHOW/BREEDING PUPPY. If this does not apply please disregard this clause.
1. If the new owner decides they still want to pursue breed this dog, genetic testing such as OFA hips, heart, & eye certification etc. Must be performed and is required before any other talk can continue.
2. The said puppy/dog has to first prove there are fit to become a breeder and part of a breeding program by passing the appropriate health clearances at the appropriate age (hips, elbows, heart, eyes, etc.) with ratings that breeder/seller deems acceptable. Puppy/dog is also required to have completed and MUST PASS the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) program. After testing is complete, Buyer agrees to send All documentation to the breeder to be valid and considered.
3. A fee of no less than $1500 and no more than $3500 will be collected OR the 1st or 2nd pick puppy from the first (2) litters will be agreed upon (breeders’ choice) before registration can be opened to Buyer. This is because when anyone purchases a pup from us they are purchasing a “Pet” not a “Show/breeder” therefore pay for only a Pet. Our “Show” & “breeder” pups are considerably more then what we charge families looking for a “pet” and nothing more.
4. There is NO guarantee offered that your puppy will be fit to breed, verbal or otherwise. We can only tell you if we fell the puppy has the drive and the structure to do well in AKC competition or performance events. We also make no claim your puppy will title or finish. Buyer agrees Seller is NOT responsible for any money spent to obtain any clearances, titles, certificates or awards.
There is NO guarantee offered that your puppy will pass any or all health clearances. Buyer agrees that seller is NOT responsible for any money loss in trying to achieve said clearance whether with passing grades or not. It is the sole responsibility both physically and financially of the Buyer to obtain clearances if they should choose to.
5. There is NO guarantee offered to adult size, color, hair texture, temperament, or dropping of testicles for any puppy produced by Southern Golden Retriever, No reputable breeder will or can guarantee this.
Buyer has read and understands all the terms and provisions contained in this agreement. Buyer understands that the terms and provisions contained constitute a binding agreement and constitutes the entire agreement of the parties with respect to the sale and purchase of the puppy.
