A little bit about
ME
We live in the lovely small-town community of Grand Terrace, Ca with our 4 wonderful kids, dogs, 3 bunnies and the occasional house guest that call me Auntie. We do also have a home in beautiful Ozarks that we visit often, sometimes taking our dogs and puppies along with us.
As a child I grew up in a very dog friendly home and I experienced the joy of whelping, rearing and training puppies as a young girl. My mother was a dog fancier herself and taught me the love and joy of showing dogs and raising pups. I have been working with Golden's for over 18+yrs now and over the years I have been blessed with some of the most amazing and beautiful goldens that have been a breeze to work with and I am so proud of what all my babies have been able to accomplish over the years.
About
Southern Golden Retrievers (SGR)
I personally have been raising puppies using Bio-Sensor Training also known as the "SUPER DOG PROGRAM" (The Routine was discovered by the U.S. military during wartime and instituted into the country's military canine training program) since I started way back when and in recent years I started to introduce the Puppy Culture Program to our litters along side Avidog and other training we do. All of these programs and training we have allowed us to not only produce gorgeous correct pups but more trainable, easier to handle and just an all around better pup for our families. Our dogs are not only well balanced physically but mentally as well!
The choice to raise Retrievers was based on their temperament, love, affection, skill, and the their need to please their owners that they are known for. PLUS I had the pleasure of growing up with these beautiful creatures and I'm so grateful for them.

We strive to breed and raise the perfect family member and that means Health, and temperament is our #1 priority before conformation. Let me be clear the pups we produce here are all amazing and with the right trainer and handler can go the distance in the ring but thats all because of the foundation we have built and laid for them. Although this is an amazing feet that we ourselves have accomplished over the years, my priorities now are to produce a well balanced golden that will do awesome in any environment they may find themselves in.
We place a the majority of our pups in working and/or companionship "pet" homes. A lot of our families patriciate in the ACK S.T.A.R. Puppy program when they go home and is something I highly recommend to EVERYONE no matter what you are looking for in a dog. Most continue on to gain their CGC titles and some even patriciate in the ACK trick dog program which is so amazing to see. We do also place our goldens into service/therapy homes too BUT we make no claim that your dog will pass the required test in becoming a service animal. To be honest some make it but most do not; its very very very hard to become a real service animal (that goes for any breed, because it take the right pup) but all of those dogs that didnt make it to service level have went on to became amazing therapy and emotional support dogs for their families and the people in their communities.
As a wife to a disabled combat Vet who has a service animal himself and a mother to a disabled child with their therapy dog this really is near and dear to my heart and hits very close to home. Knowing what this breed can do for families like mine, is the reason our goals have shifted just a little so that our goldens can become great working/supportive dog. My goal is to produce puppies that are more trainable, mentally stable and healthy that do well in any home they find themselves in. Our goldens, to this day can still compete in the ring and on the field but I focus my time in raising well adjusted pups first before conformation or "birdy" dogs.

Due to the amount of work we have put into our dogs, not to mention the money we invested into them, is the reason why we only place our pups with limited registration. Unfortunately, the reality is that anyone with a check book can get a Golden and breed it to who knows what which breaks our hearts but it takes more than money to breed and raise the perfect balanced pup and at SGR a happy healthy well-balanced dog is what we are always striving for. All that happens first with selecting breeders then raising and training our pups with what we learned from Avidog, Puppy Culture, BABs and feeding the very best that we can offer, Complete RAW diets.
As your pup grows we start to mix in high quality kibble with their RAW diets because we know most pups will go to a home that will feed only kibble. By the time they are ready to go home they can easily be weaned off the 50/50 mix and start their high-quality kibble only diet in no time. We of course recommend a 100% Complete and balanced Raw Diet but understand keeping up with a completely raw diet is not something most can do so the next best thing we recommend is continuing our 50/50 diet of 50% kibble and 50% Raw if you can manage but at the very least feeding your pup a high quality dog food for the remainder of their lives is very important. A Raw diet isn’t required but highly recommend for aiding in the continued health of you dog But we do required a high quality kibble diet with a rating of 4 or more on AAFCO.
We recommend Purina Pro Plan and this is what we feed our pups.

To better help us with our decisions on picking the right SGR breeding bitch or when finding a stud or planing a breeding or adding to our program, We perform all health testing on each one of our breeders and require any stud or bitch we may use to have all health clearances as well before a breeding can take place. Since we are in the time of new breeders popping out of everywhere, the right price can get you anything and people breeding for purely profit; we decided the best way to show our dogs are 100% authentic Golden Retrievers we starting DNA testing all of our breeding dogs which shows our pups are 100% Goldens . We are also conducting an even more intense Health screening by having our dogs genetically tested by Embark for 160 conditions/diseases so that you know you are getting exactly what you are looking for in the perfect healthy pup because their parents themselves are extremely healthy before they are even considered to be apart of our program.
We are proud to be producing loyal, loving, healthy, correct dogs with amazing temperaments and prefect conformations for everyone to enjoy. We want to share the joy of having a Retriever with everyone we can.
